We begin this edition of “Back In The Day Buzz” by wishing you a belated Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you were able to spend it with your family and were blessed enough to have plenty of food on the table and the ability to create some new memories! I spent it with my Dad and couldn’t help but reflect on the beauty of family memories – the sentimental side in me, I suppose… Speaking of memories and Thanksgiving, I took a trip down “memory lane” with Wilson Phillips when I saw a TV commercial during a football game for Progressive Insurance featuring Carnie Wilson! Dave O’ Reflects On Where The VMA’s Went Wrong
I thought I would write a reflective edition of “Back In The Day Buzz” this time around – though I suppose since this is a 90’s show, they’re ALL reflective. As I watched the MTV VMA’s last night, I couldn’t help but think to myself: “Wow… this show really isn’t what it used to be. It’s gone majorly downhill. And I don’t know if they can ever get it back to where it once was.” To be more specific, Miley Cyrus’ performance was AWFUL last night, as was the completely obvious “wardrobe malfunction” that was obviously planned and contrived well before the event itself. Come Read More …
Dave O: Good For You Catilyn Jenner
The biggest pop culture story at the moment is the transformation of Bruce Jenner into Caitlyn Jenner, which is well publicized in the latest Vanity Fair! And while Caitlyn Jenner doesn’t have a lot of relevance to the ’90’s (outside of a couple of TV show appearances and a Saturday Night Live skit), I thought it was an amazing enough of a life story to chime in on. I want to APPLAUD Caitlyn for standing up for what she believes in, and that is equality for all people, no matter the sexual orientation, race, gender, etc. Not only that, but being willing to be a Read More …
Britney, Madonna & More
I certainly hope your April was great as we get to the May edition of “Back In The Day Buzz!” Let’s begin by talking more about the Britney Spears/Iggy Azalea single that we first wrote about two months back. It’s called “Pretty Girls” and was leaked last Saturday. Here is a link to check out the catchy tune. By the way, Brit Brit and Iggy will be performing the song at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards on May 17th (a week from this weekend!). Next, I’m sure you are as blown away as I am by the fact that Milli Vanilli singer Fab Morvan is Read More …
Selena, Hootie & Hewitt
Welcome to our exciting April edition of “Back In The Day Buzz,” where we get right to plenty of exciting news by starting with Wilson Phillips. In particular, how UH-MAZING is it that the group was recently hired to do background vocals on the song “FourFiveSeconds” by Rihanna? That’s right, listen closely… not only will you hear Kanye West and Paul McCartney but also, the ladies who sang one of my favorite 90’s songs, “Hold On.” I didn’t believe it at first either but once you hear ’em, it’s pretty sweet! Next, more good news in the form of a possible Hootie & The Blowfish Read More …
RIP Charmayne Maxwell
I hate having to write these tragic RIP posts every now and again but each artist of the 90’s deserves to be remembered for the lives they lived. In this case, I’m sad to report that Charmayne Maxwell of Brownstone has passed away (earlier this week, at the age of just 46) and it happened in about as tragic of a manner as you can imagine. Maxwell was innocently enjoying a glass of wine on her very own patio when she apparently tripped, fell backwards and had her wine glass shatter on the ground below her. Milli seconds later, she fell onto it and suffered Read More …
Original 90210, MSDOS & More
We begin this week with tragic news in the ’90’s pop culture world………………………………. The news is that Beverly Hills 90210 was planning a reunion of the ORIGINAL CAST a few years back but it was NIXED by every single network. To be more specific, Ian Ziering (Steve) recently opened opened up to the Huffington Post and said a reunion special had been pitched where the cast would sit around a dinner table and reminisce. It was to appear on TV back in 2010 but surprisingly, nobody was interested. You can find the full article at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/03/ian-ziering-beverly-hills-90210-reunion_n_6608148.html?utm_hp_ref=1990s but count me as one 90210 fan who is Read More …
Lenny, SWV & More
First of all, how AMAZING was that Super Bowl Halftime Show this past Sunday that included Katy Perry, Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravitz?!?! I know this is a 90’s show and neither Elliot nor Perry had hits during that decade but Kravitz sure did (“Fly Away” and “American Woman”) so I feel like it’s fair game to bring it up. I liked that Katy kept things classy and tame while giving a performance that sparked lots of cool senses! She really is exactly what you see on TV – fun, funny and sweet. Missy completely stole the show in doing a few of her old Read More …
Mariah, Britney & Vegas!
I have absolutely TREEEEEEEEEEEE-MENDOUSSSSSSSS news for you if a trip to Las Vegas is in the works anytime soon. NOT ONLY can you still see Britney Spears play at her residency at Planet Hollywood (“Piece Of Me”) but also, MARIAH FREAKING CAREY has now established a two year residency at Caesers Palace (with 27 shows per year)! Mariah will do so in nine show increments over the two years meaning that basically, she’ll play one month, take a month off, play one month, etc. Something else great about the news is that she promises to play ALL HER HITS, not just some of them, as Read More …
We Pay Homage To The Walkman
Happy New Year!!! I don’t know about you, but as I opened up Christmas gifts a couple of weeks back and looked at the electronics ads, I couldn’t help but reminisce about the old days, the 1990’s, when we thought technology was good but in reality… it was awful!!! Haha. Remember when a computer would cost $1,500, monitor sold separately??? How about dial up Internet with 2400 Baud modems? Hahahah that is so funny to think back about. It would take like a minute for a page with a photo to load and if someone picked up the phone, you were kicked off!!! Finally, remember Read More …
