Selena, Hootie & Hewitt

Welcome to our exciting April edition of “Back In The Day Buzz,” where we get right to plenty of exciting news by starting with Wilson Phillips.

In particular, how UH-MAZING is it that the group was recently hired to do background vocals on the song “FourFiveSeconds” by Rihanna?

That’s right, listen closely… not only will you hear Kanye West and Paul McCartney but also, the ladies who sang one of my favorite 90’s songs, “Hold On.” I didn’t believe it at first either but once you hear ’em, it’s pretty sweet!

Next, more good news in the form of a possible Hootie & The Blowfish reunion… to be exact, Darius Rucker (aka “Hootie”) says that he and his bandmates (“The Blowfish”) always get together once a year and play the old songs… but now, they’re writing new ones so that if and when the time comes for a new album, they’ll be ready to release a lot of tracks. AKA, a new Hootie album looks LIKELY (from what I’m told) in late 2016/early 2017!

And going one year further, by the summer of 2018, the family of the late superstar Selena has announced that they plan on her launching a concert tour….. with Selena as a Hologram.

And what’s more? Not only will Selena be virtually there but also, never before tracks will be released.

The idea is mostly getting criticized by Selena fans and called “creepy.” I’m not quite sure what to think… On one hand, I’m happy that she is being remembered 20+ years after her tragic death and I think that it’s a good thing for the new generation to get to know her, the music and her story, because she did a lot of things for a lot of people… on the other hand, IS IT creepy? I don’t know… maybe a tad. I’m indifferent on this one. Would love to hear your thoughts on our twitter (@roundtrip90s) or via e-mail (daveo@roundtripwithdaveo.com)

Last, we leave you with some 90’s movie news, as She’s All That will be coming back to the big screen in late 2015/early 2016 in a completely “updated” way.

I’m guessing that means most, if not all of the original cast, will NOT be included, which sucks because I was always a huge fan of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Rachael Leigh Cook. I will also say that when I saw the movie in 1999 I enjoyed it, but never thought in a million years it would stand the test of time for a remake. I’ll definitely go watch it, though.

You know which movie I always get confused with She’s All That?

Can’t Hardly Wait with Jennifer Love Hewitt. Anyone remember that flick?

Anyway, some interesting news this month and I’m sure we’ll have plenty more in May.

Until then, take care, keep listening to Round trip and keep livin’ the 90’s dream! 🙂
