Happy Holidays From Dave O

I could use this space to write about the bizarre story and seemingly undoing of Scott Stapp, frontman of Creed, with his living out of a truck and alleged threats toward President Obama. However, since I don’t want to speculate on “he said/she said” and also won’t speak with you for a couple of weeks due to the Holidays, I thought I would keep this entry positive! So I want to wish you and your family Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!!! And if you live far away from home or perhaps don’t have a lot of family left, I hope you can find Read More …

Alanis, MJB & More

On some editions of “Back In The Day Buzz,” I’m the bearer of bad news, from issues like divorce to lawsuits to at times, much worse. But on this issue, I’m happy to say I have nothing but GREAT NEWS to report! Let’s start with Alanis Morissette, who recently opened up to the Huffington Post about the days when she FIRST hit it big – think “Jagged Little Pill.” To sum it up, she went from playing small, intimate “lounge” type venues to stadiums, and seemingly overnight. As one might imagine, Alanis had a tough time dealing with all of the quick changes and pressure. Read More …

Ariana, Jessie J & More

My excitement level was difficult to contain this past week when I found out that “The Boy Is Mine” by Brandy & Monica will be re-recorded and re-released… By 2014 artists Jessie J and Ariana Grande!!! For somebody who LOVES the original, and also thinks very highly of the two new pop stars recording the remake, this couldn’t be any more amazing. It will definitely be interesting to see what kind of success the remake will have, too, because “The Boy Is Mine” spent 13 weeks at #1 back in 1998 on the Billboard Hot 100. No word on the exact release date yet, but Read More …

Macy, Sting & More

It was extremely late in 1999 when “I Try” from Macy Gray hit the top of the pop charts – hard to believe that’s been FIFTEEN YEARS AGO!!!!!! Also hard to believe that Macy admits that she would be in JAIL if it weren’t for her career in music and some of those closest to her keeping her clean. While she was out promoting her new album “The Way” the other day, she admitted that alcohol and drugs were a big pull for her earlier in life, and that without her family and management, she wouldn’t be anywhere but jail in 2014. I’ve met Macy Read More …

The Top 5 TV Shows From the 90’s

You know what’s one of the best facets of friendship? Arguments. That’s because with a friend, you can air out ALL the dirty laundry, and be as bold/blunt as you want about ANY topic. And just last night, three of my best friends and I had that very situation occur at a Starbucks near the Round Trip studios. Of course, since I’m obsessed with the 90’s, the jawing was in regards to something from my favorite decade, and I need YOUR help to settle the quarrel. Here is the question: WHAT ARE THE TOP 5 TELEVISION SHOWS FROM THE 90’S? Take a few minutes and Read More …

Surge Is Back!

The year was 1996 when the Coca-Cola Company had the genius idea to produce the epic brand of soda called “Surge” to compete with “Mountain Dew.” As I recall, the first Surge commercials aired during the Super Bowl and featured a whole bunch of teenaged boys wrestling and struggling with each other to see who could get to the top of a hill first to capture the bottle of Surge. Hopefully you remember Surge, although it apparently wasn’t produced in a few states. It was Coca-Cola’s second attempt at taking on Pepsi’s Mountain Dew head to head (after “Mello Yello” mostly failed). The soda was Read More …

Leave Britney Alone!

I’m supposed to be on vacation this week but wanted to post a quick note about one of my favorite people in the world, Britney Spears! If you’re a regular reader of these articles, you know my feelings for Brit Brit – I’ve been a fan and admirer of her’s since we were both 17! We are the exact same age, so I feel like we kind of have grown up together. I’ve met Britney a couple of times and she is always down to earth, kind, polite and fun. So I hate seeing her get the “toxic” results (pun intended) that she seems to Read More …

Christina, Will & More

It’s been a busy week, so let’s get right to updating you on what’s going on within the world of ’90’s pop stars! For starters, a belated but huge CONGRATULATIONS to Christina Aguilera and her fiance Matt Rutler who are parents of a new healthy baby girl named “Summer Rain” (not to be confused with Frank Sinatra’s song “Summer Wind”). Summer Rain is the second child for Christina and becomes the little half-sister to Aguilera and ex-husband Jordan Bratman’s son, Maxwell. Now that Christina has given birth, she is reportedly working on a Holiday wedding to Rutler, which will no doubt be BEAUTIFUL! We hope Read More …

R.I.P. Robin Williams

I’ve spent much of this week thinking about a true 90’s icon in Robin Williams, who spent most of his life making us laugh and now, the end of his life making us cry and as I think, I can’t help but feel like I miss him, even though I never met him. And by the way, sorry to any of my former English teachers who may be reading this – that was a true run on sentence! Haha. Seriously though… from the time I was a kid, I remember watching Robin Williams films – from “Mrs. Doubtfire” to “One Hour Photo,” “Good Will Hunting” Read More …
