Christina, Will & More

It’s been a busy week, so let’s get right to updating you on what’s going on within the world of ’90’s pop stars!

For starters, a belated but huge CONGRATULATIONS to Christina Aguilera and her fiance Matt Rutler who are parents of a new healthy baby girl named “Summer Rain” (not to be confused with Frank Sinatra’s song “Summer Wind”).

Summer Rain is the second child for Christina and becomes the little half-sister to Aguilera and ex-husband Jordan Bratman’s son, Maxwell. Now that Christina has given birth, she is reportedly working on a Holiday wedding to Rutler, which will no doubt be BEAUTIFUL! We hope they work out as a couple as they seem like a duo that really care about each other!

Next, while summer is basically over (not to be confused with Summer Rain), there were a ton of recent 90’s artists who were either playing random shows/reuniting or full out touring.

For example, how about Will Smith (“The Fresh Prince”) and DJ Jazzy Jeff reunifying for a performance of “Summertime” in Las Vegas last week. The impromptu show happened at “The Palms Casino Resort” on a bill that also featured Smith’s son Trey. You can catch video of it all over You Tube or here on roundtripwithdaveo.com!

Not only was Will Smith performing, but SOUL ASYLUM was back on the road doing the “Summerland 2014 Tour” along with Everclear, Eve 6 and Spacehog! I was unable to see the show when it recently came through and HATE MYSELF for it!!! One of my favorite CD’s of the entire ’90’s was Soul Asylum’s “Grave Dancer’s Union,” even though the cover did and still does freak me out!!!

A few other 90’s bands were out and at it this summer, too. Were you able to catch:

-Blues Traveler? They’re still going for a few more weeks, including in Indianapolis next weekend (Friday, September 5th for the Colts kickoff concert).

-Goo Goo Dolls, touring with Daughtry? Also still going until next Saturday in Wayzata, MN.

-Third Eye Blind? They have one more official show, as of now, September 19th in Bethlehem, PA. The rumor mill continues to churn that they will be done as a band any day now. Though I thought it was last fall, so who knows. The longer, the better – one of my favorite all-time 90’s bands and Stephen Jenkins is a boss!

Anyway, an exciting time to be a fan of the 90’s, with the music showing a big resurgence in the last year and so many of these bands either still active or getting back together for old times sake.

Did I miss a band in there that I need to know about which is either touring or getting back together? Hit me up at daveo@roundtripwithdaveo.com and tell me all about it, plus your hometown!

Until next time, take care, and keep livin’ the 90’s dream!!

-Dave O
