We have a number of stops this week, so let’s dig right in! We start this by congratulating Jessica Simpson on her pregnancy! Simpson, who is 31, and her fiance, former NFL’er Eric Johnson (49ers and Saints), are both thrilled about the pregnancy, which was announced on Halloween. “It’s true! I am going to be a mummy,” she said on her website. Speaking of pregnancies, Beyonce and husband Jay-Z are expecting in February. The sex of the child has not publicly been confirmed, but the important thing is that Mom is healthy and excited! Keeping with the 90’s female theme, Robyn looked stunning and sounded Read More …
Mariah, J-Lo and…Beavis??
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were on 20/20 this past Friday night, their first dual interview since the birth of their twins, Monroe and Moroccan. The interview was cool because Barbara Walters visited them at their apartment in New York City to discuss marriage and parenthood. During the visit, Mariah sang her 2005 hit “We Belong Together.” Speaking of Mariah, with the weather starting to get cold, I’m stoked to start hearing “All I Want For Christmas” soon. But hopefully, soon doesn’t mean before Halloween! In other news, Jennifer Lopez now has her own home and clothing line, which is exclusively available at Kohl’s. Read More …
Gerardo, TLC & More
Interesting that before this month, I hadn’t heard anything new about “Rico Suave” singer Gerardo in several years. However, I saw an episode of VH1’s “Top One Hit Wonders of the ’90’s” a few weeks back and Gerardo was featured. It was neat because he spoke of how his kids are just now realizing that he used to be a star, and they make fun of him for always taking his shirt off! Then earlier this week, Gerardo made headlines for suing a man named Fernando Garibay, whom he helped discover and land a lucrative deal for in 2007. Garibay has gone on to Read More …
Matchbox 20, Melissa Etheridge & More
How is it already October?!?!? It seems like just yesterday it was winter! And before we know it, it’ll be winter again! And we’ll all be a year older. Yikes… I better stop there before we have a collective meltdown, right?!? Let’s go to a happier place and begin with news on Matchbox 20. We previously reported a few months back that the new Matchbox 20 album would be out late this fall or early winter. That now appears to be a little wishful thinking, as the album itself isn’t even done yet! Plus, once its done, you have to think it’ll be a couple Read More …
R.E.M., Britney & More
Unless you live under a boulder, I’m sure it comes as old news to you that R.E.M. broke up this week after more than three decades together! And, as R.E.M. has always done, they handled this move with class. Here’s what lead singer Michael Stipe said. “A wise man once said that the skill in attending a party is knowing when it’s time to leave. We did something extraordinary together. We did this thing. And now we’re going to walk away from it.” In my opinion, its neat to see a band end on their own terms and end with a sense of gratitude for Read More …
Remembering 9/11
Instead of updating you on your favorite ’90’s artists this week, I thought it would be appropriate to reflect upon the tenth anniversary of 9/11. It is hard to believe its been ten years since that horrible, horrific day. I am sure you remember exactly where you were and if you’re like me, it almost gets worse the further away we get from the day. What I mean by that is, I don’t know if we really could grasp the complete tragedy that day was at the time it occurred. We obviously knew it was the worst day in United States history, and we knew Read More …
Spin Doctors, Paula Abdul & More
I am happy to announce that Spin Doctors will be joining us live in the next few weeks for an extended and candid interview. And, if you didn’t hear, they have a BRAND NEW album out, and its a two disc’er. To be exact, the 20th anniversary re-issue of “Pocket Full of Kryptonite,” which gave us the smash hits “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong.” Disc one is that exact same album. Disc two has 17 additional tracks from throughout the years, some never heard before. Keep up with “The Doctors” at www.spindoctors.com and be listening for our interview with them later this Read More …
Boyz II Men, Savage Garden & More
So, what happened to Boyz II Men? Well, like so many 1990’s artists, they’re still around and making new music! And, did you know they almost joined NKOTBSB this past summer? Yes, it’s true! They were initially approached and the deal almost happened. Can you imagine how awesome it would have been to see New Kids, Backstreet AND Boyz II Men?!?! Darnit! But, I’m told they’ll have a big tour coming up in the near future, so keep checking back for updates. In the meantime, Boyz II Men has an official website and are actively out and about this month touring. www.boyziimen.com Next, I’ve gotten Read More …
Mandy Moore, TEB & More
So I’m going to be completely honest this week…. my feelings have been really hurt by Mandy Moore in recent months. Before I explain why, let me first tell you that I LOVED her late 90’s and early 2000’s “bubble gum pop.” In my book, “Candy” and “I Wanna Be With You” were both great pop songs that sent positive messages to younger music fans. Plus, they were catchy. Then there was the movie “A Walk To Remember,” which gave us the best Mandy Moore song of all time, “Only Hope.” I used that movie and that song on many first dates and mix CD’s, Read More …
Ricky Martin, Lisa Loeb & M
I suppose this story puts a new meaning into “Shake Your Bon Bon.” Ricky Martin recently disclosed that a couple of fans once climbed and hid in a ventilation system to meet him. And the funniest part is that Ricky admits he was naked at the time, when he heard weird noises coming from the vents in his hotel room. Upon checking and discovering the fans, and being the cool guy Ricky is, he took photos with them and even gave out a couple of autographs. No word on whether or not the fans saw Ricky’s Bon Bon or not! Meanwhile, if you wear glasses Read More …
