R.I.P. Whitney

I had planned to update you on SWV having its first new album in years, as well as an exciting nugget on late ’90’s girl group B*Witched. However, this will be put on hold for awhile, as the news of Whitney Houston’s death has just been released as I near “publish time” and I want to give Whitney the full spotlight. Let me begin by saying Whitney Houston is one of my all-time favorite people in not only music, but also, personally. She was genuine in ways that most human beings, let alone musicians, couldn’t touch. She was a woman who lived the best she Read More …

Seal, Beyonce and More

Valentines Day is less than two weeks away, but you wouldn’t know it from all of the splits that continue to happen with ’90’s stars! Most notably, as we have discussed in recent weeks, Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony have separated and at the time they split up, hadn’t even been communicating. However, since then, the two have done several media appearances and interviews together while promoting their new television show, and they now seem to be getting along great! And while nothing is imminent at this point, there are whispers of J-Lo and Marc giving things a “second go” and trying to get back Read More …

Boyz II Men, Madonna & More

We begin this edition with plenty of news about the Hollywood Walk of Fame. First of all, one of the most deserving 90’s bands of all, Boyz II Men, was awarded with their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this past week. As always, the guys handled it with class, mentioning their fans over and over again. Read more about this, and their brand new album, at www.boyziimen.com In other Hollywood Walk of Fame news, famed song writer Diane Warren has agreed to join us for the entire show on the weekend of February 11th! Warren is in the Song Writers Hall of Read More …

Diva Edition of Back in the Day Buzz

I LOVE celebrity babies. After all, what “normal folk” could name a kid “Blue Ivy” and not be seen as crazy? To put in simpler terms, Beyonce & Jay-Z do it, as they did over the weekend, they’re heralded as “creative” and “unique.” Joe Schmoe and Jane Doe do it, they are seen as doing WAY TOO MANY drugs. Lol! But I digress, because I want to seriously congratulate Jay and Beyonce on their healthy and beautiful baby. And how cool is it that just minutes into the real world, Blue Ivy has already made her musical debut, as her crying is sampled on Jay-Z’s Read More …

Matchbox 20, Gina G & More

I’m starting to think the new Matchbox 20 album we’ve been hearing about for the past several months is like a mirage in the desert. You keep looking ahead and seeing it, but then the closer you get, the further off it is! First, the album was supposed to be released this past fall. Then, early this winter. And now, I hear spring. So that must mean summer of 2014?!? I kid, I kid. I’m just a diehard Matchbox 20 fan and can’t wait. I need my fix for their first album in ten years! Speaking of Matchbox 20, I was sorry to see that Read More …

Marc Anthony, Expose & More

Since its the Christmas edition of Back in the Day Buzz, how about some heart warming news to begin with? Or, at least heart warming news if you work for Marc Anthony!! It was announced on Tuesday that Anthony would be providing his 14 person staff with a free five day ROUND TRIP (we like that!) to the Dominican Republic. Yes, beautiful beaches, warm weather and BASEBALL. It’s been my dream to go to the Dominican since I was a kid, so this is especially cool to me. Good for Marc! Staying with Christmas, Expose has its first new single in over FIFTEEN YEARS, and Read More …

Britney Spears Engaged

Congrats to our girl Britney – and let’s hope that” the third time is the charm!” If you didn’t hear, Britney Spears became engaged to her longtime boyfriend (and former agent) Jason Trawick on Thursday night, as they dined on his 40th Birthday! Britney then tweeted out Friday morning: “OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I’ve been waiting for. Can’t wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!! Xxo” From talking with friends in the record industry and out in L.A., the two are legitimately happy together and legitimately in love. I believe this will last for both of them, unlike Read More …

Hanson, TLC and J-Lo

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am for this news. The Hanson brothers have THEIR OWN BEER coming out!!!! That’s right, Zac Hanson (whom we had on the show a couple weeks back – click on 90’s Connections at the top of the page to listen) announced this past Monday that the group will have its own beer coming out under the IPA label. It will be an Indian Pale Ale and be in stores (and bars) by early 2012. So in the next two months or so! The best part? The name of the beer. It will be called…. ready? Read More …

Cyndi, BSB & More

I hope your Thanksgiving went great and that you got a chance to spend time with your family and give them a huge hug! Even if not, hopefully a phone call and “I Love You” was in the works. The Holidays are such an awesome time of the year and to me, really help keep things in perspective, as far as what’s important. Believe it or not, there IS something bigger than 90’s music (family). But that’s about it! 🙂 Anyway, with all that said, there is some HUGE news to announce this weekend! We have just confirmed two AWESOME shows for the Holidays. First, Read More …

R.I.P. Heavy D

I am writing this as of 10 PM on Tuesday, November 8th, and I am shaken up about the death of Heavy D. Obviously, he was a true icon in the ’90’s, and one of the true forefathers of rap becoming what it is today. Who can forget his contributions, including the smash hit song “Now That We Found Love,” and doing the theme song for In Living Color. Another little known fact about Heavy D was that he also starred alongside Eddie Murphy in the vastly underrated film called Life, which came out in 1999. Since this note is being composed on the same Read More …
