Madonna, Sheryl Crow and More

To say I’m excited this week is a MAJOR UNDERSTATEMENT, as I just found out that Madonna is working on her twelfth studio album! This will be Madonna’s first album since 2008’s “Hard Candy” and should be set for an early to mid 2012 release. The “Queen of Pop” is also working hard on her new clothing line, “Material Girl,” but I can luckily tell you I’m NOT excited about that. At least not on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday’s! 🙂 Meanwhile, R. Kelly is having tough times, as his $2.9 million dollar Chicago area home is facing foreclosure. Apparently its been over Read More …

Jewel, Depeche Mode and More

We start this week by congratulating Jewel and Ty Murray on the birth of their first child earlier this month. Kase Townes Murray is a healthy boy weighing in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces. And just to clear up the rumors, it IS true that his hands are small he knows, but they’re not yours, they are his own. (Ta Da Dum!!!) Our next stop involves Depeche Mode and an embarrassing moment that just won’t go away! Back in late 2009, the band was performing in Peru when they apparently sent a shout out to the wrong country, saying, “Thank you very much, Chile!” The Read More …

Bon Jovi, J-Lo and More

“Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” I’m sure you’ve heard that before, right? And probably, you tend to agree with it, whether it be a relationship or a place that you have to leave for awhile. Being away from it makes you appreciate it more. Bon Jovi certainly thinks and hopes so, as they recently announced they will be taking a two year hiatus from music. Apparently the bad ass rockers feel like fans need some time away to fully appreciate them. Or maybe, its just the fact that they need a couple of years to spend all that money that was earned from the Read More …

Jessica, Allanah and More

Though she’s not remembered as a 90’s artist, Jessica Simpson DID have her first hit in late 1999 with “I Wanna Love You Forever.” In fact, she opened for 98 Degrees that fall and met her future husband (Nick Lachey) while on tour! Since then, Simpson has morphed into a full-blown pop star, then a big sister to an aspiring pop star (Ashlee), then a reality show star (“Newlyweds”), then an almost country star and now once again, a reality show star. That’s right, NBC recently announced that Jessica will be a mentor and help guide aspiring designer contestants in a reality show called “Fashion Read More …

MB20, Sophie B. and More

I  bring you nothing but GREAT news today about many ’90’s artists with new material on the way! First, Matchbox 20 has been working on a new record since last September, and as of this week, are back together finalizing it. They’re even going to start playing shows together later this summer and fall, with the first scheduled for July 9th. Matchbox 20 is actually an interesting story. Technically, they never really broke up; rather, Rob Thomas wanted to pursue more as a solo artist and different members of the band also wanted to branch out on their own. The plan was always for the Read More …

Mulberry Lane

Mulberry Lane is a very interesting story for me to tell, as I was distantly involved with them being discovered and signed to a record deal. Before we talk about that, however, let’s refresh ourselves on who Mulbery Lane was and is. First of all, the groups name came from the street they grew up on in Omaha, Nebraska, as Mulberry Lane consists of the Rizzuto sisters (Heather, Racheal, Jaymie and Allie). After finishing high school at various points, all of the sisters followed a similar path, graduating as Chi Omega’s from the University of Nebraska at Omaha while chasing their passion of singing and Read More …

Amanda Marshall

I can without a doubt say that Amanda Marshall has more soul in her pinky finger than I do in my entire body. If you aren’t familiar with her music, a quick scan of You Tube or I Tunes is a necessity – I can pretty much guarantee you’ll be impressed, if not hooked. But just WHO IS Amanda Marshall? Well, that remains a bit of a mystery, especially today, as Marshall has largely disappeared from the public view in recent years thanks to (mostly) a longstanding legal dispute with her record company that began in 2002. To this day, only those close to the Read More …

Freedy Johnston

In 1994, Freedy Johnston took the music world by storm after Rolling Stone named him their “songwriter of the year” for his album “This Perfect World.” The album featured Johnston’s biggest pop success, a hit called “Bad Reputation,” and was the main launching point for his career, which as of 2011, is over 20 years strong. Johnston recently sat down with Dave O to discuss his life and career, both then and now. Dave O: Welcome aboard Freedy! I find your background more interesting than most, so I want to spend a little time discussing it. You grew up in a small Kansas town (Kinsley) Read More …

Martin Page

You may or may not know the name Martin Page, but as a fan of pop music, there is no doubt you know many songs he has directly played a key role in creating. Born in Southhampton, England, on September 23rd, 1959, Page formed a group called Q-Feel by his 21st birthday in 1980. In 1981, the group signed with Jive Records and had a couple of minor hits. By 1983, Page had decided to leave the UK and move to the United States in order to pursue music from a different angle – behind the scenes. As such, Q-Feel broke up in 1984, but Read More …

Nu Flavor

For nearly as long as television has been in existence, it has played a large role in helping to launch the careers of many musicians. The earliest prominent example is that of Ricky Nelson, who was first on the television show “Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” before launching a music career that saw fifty three songs make their way onto the Billboard Hot 100 between 1957 and 1973. Most recently, stars such as Miley Cyrus on “Hannah Montana” and Miranda Cosgrove on “iCarly” have used television to propel themselves onto the Billboard charts. In the 1990’s, perhaps the biggest way to know “you were on Read More …
