We start this week by answering a listener e-mail, sent to daveo@roundtripwithdaveo.com. It comes to us from Lexi in Indianapolis. “…and I’m wondering if you can catch up with Sugar Ray soon! I always thought they were so great. You’ve talked to everyone else. Can you update us on them? Thanks.” Lexi, Sugar Ray, led by 90’s heart throb Mark McGrath, is still very much around and yes, we will talk with them in the near future. Actually, at the moment, Sugar Ray is out on tour with several bands we’ve recently interviewed – Gin Blossoms, Marcy Playground, Everclear and Lit! Its called the “Summerland Read More …
Usher, Mariah & More
We begin this week by sending our thoughts, strength and prayers out to the family of Usher Raymond and his ex-wife, Tameka Foster. Roughly two weeks ago, Kile Glover, who was only eleven years old, was jet skiing when a family friend accidentally struck the jet ski Kile was riding. Glover had been on life support for several days since the wreck and before the tough decision to pull him off was made. I can’t even imagine the pain and suffering for both Usher and Tameka, and will keep them in my thoughts. Its another reminder of never taking a single day for granted, and Read More …
Hanson Interview
If you were a female who grew up in the ’90’s, chances are you believed that you were going to marry either Zac, Isaac or Taylor Hanson, affectionately known as Hanson. The Tulsa, Oklahoma based brothers became household names by the fall of 1997 after the album “Middle Of Nowhere” and the hit “MMMBop,” which helped them get nominated for three Grammy awards. Dave O recently SKYPED with Zac Hanson to discuss both the hysteria of the late ’90’s, but also Hanson’s new album. Topics covered include the real story of “MMMBop,” how the band got its lucky break, unauthorized fan biographies, covering Slipknot, charities Read More …
Crash Test Dummies Interview
So why in the heck did Crash Test Dummies lead singer Brad Roberts decide on the name “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” for the bands worldwide hit that garnered three Grammy Nominations? For one of the first times, Roberts admits the cold hard truth in this interview, which Dave O recently did with him via SKYPE. During this one hour conversation, also hear about how the band chose the unique name Crash Test Dummies, the history of its formation, updates on new material and much, much more.
Usher, Meatloaf & More
Believe it or not, there was more happening in celebrity news over the past week than Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes filing for divorce. However, like Tom and Katie, neither of our first two stories are exactly uplifting. We start with Usher, who had a bizarre woman at his front door late at night and had to call 911. If you want to hear the tapes, they’re all over the Internet. Apparently, the woman, who was later arrested and identified as Darshelle Jones-Rakestraw, had come to Usher’s home earlier in the day when he was not home and was temporarily allowed access when her identity Read More …
Spice Girls, Sheryl Crow & More
Spice Girls fans – its time to once again SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!!! That’s right, not only do the Spice Girls have a musical coming out at the end of this year in the UK, called “Viva Forever,” but they also have announced that “most likely,” a “tell all” 90 minute documentary will be coming out in the near future, too. After reading that, you might ask, why only “most likely?” Apparently, there’s a slight chance Victoria Beckham might back out and if that occurs, the documentary would be pulled. Either way though, you can see the musical come December. Moving onto something a bit Read More …
Carla Vanessa Interview
Back in 1996, the Bayside Boys remixed Los Del Rio’s “Macarena” into a worldwide smash! Everywhere you went, you heard it. Everywhere you looked, someone was dancing it! But a big question at the time was, who was the female singing it?!? Turns out, it was Carla Vanessa, who joined forces with the Bayside Boys for the song and later, was a member of Miami Sound Machine. Dave O recently SKYPED with Carla Vanessa to talk about the worldwide craze that was and is the “Macarena,” as well as her Miami Sound Machine days, being voted one of the Top 25 sexiest women in the Read More …
MJB, 90’s Tour & More
I have to start this week by giving Mary J. Blige “a lot of love”. Or, to stay with the theme of the ’90’s, some “real love”. Earlier this week, TMZ broke that Mary J. Blige’s charity, Steve Stoute Foundation for the Advancement of Women, was being sued for over a quarter of a million dollars! That’s right, over $250 smackers, based on a loan that was taken out a year ago. From how things sound at time of publish, it seems as though Mary J. Blige put the wrong people in charge of the money and thus, the loan never got repaid. She has Read More …
Rednex Interview
Even in 2011, some seventeen years after “Cotton Eyed Joe” first hit #1 all around the world, the song can still be heard at most bars, clubs and sports stadiums on any given night. And while most music fans know Rednex only for that song, the group is actually one of the more interesting stories you’ll ever hear. Dave O recently SKYPED with Scarlet of Rednex to talk about the group being up for sale, the bizarre fake biography that was once written and what the concept of Rednex actually means, among other things.
Jessica, Nick & More
New Order would be proud of us this week, because we have lots of news from ex-lovers (thanks to Twitter) that has created quite the “Bizarre Love Triangle!” As we told you a few weeks back, Jessica Simpson gave birth to a healthy daughter named Maxwell, who predictably, is now being turned into quite the fashionista, courtesy of Mom. Jessica sent the following tweet earlier this week: “I’m addicted to buying headbands w massive flowers for Maxwell on etsy! She is insanely beautiful I can’t help but play dress up!!” Good for you Jessica, good for you. Happy that little Maxwell is doing well. And Read More …
