Goo Goo Dollas, Everclear & More

We pride our “Back In The Day Buzz” section of www.roundtripwithdaveo.com as the place where we keep you up to date on all the latest in 90’s news, based on breaking national news that is obvious, but also sources that I have within the music and record industry that are much more unique to this very website. So, it embarrasses me that it took Ryan in Louisville to reach out to me on Twitter (@roundtrip90s) and request an update on the Goo Goo Dolls! Ryan, you beat me to the punch on this one and as a diehard fan of “The Dolls,” I’m upset with Read More …

P.M. Dawn Interview

P.M. Dawn first broke through in 1991 with the #1 hit “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss.” The duo would also achieve two more Top 10’s in “I’d Die Without You” and “Looking Through Patient Eyes.” In more recent years, the group has stumbled upon difficult times, with founder and mastermind Prince Be having three strokes, and ex member J.C. The Eternal creating controversy of his own. Dave O recently SKYPED with Doc G of P.M. Dawn to discuss Prince Be’s current health, the antics of J.C. The Eternal, the deep meaning of P.M. Dawn songs and what the future of the group holds. Listen to Read More …

R.I.P. Chris Kelly

May 1st, 2013 was a sad day for 90’s fans, and I have really struggled throughout the last week in dealing with the death of Chris Kelly from “Kris Kross.” At first, I wanted to wait and see what the cause of death was before I wrote. Then, when it became apparent it was a drug overdose (a combination of cocaine and heroine, or a “speed ball,” according to his mother), I was sitting down to write my thoughts on the situation, before I heard the last interview Kelly did just a few hours before his death, and saw a disturbing video of Kelly’s last Read More …

Spin Doctors Interview

The Spin Doctors are currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of the album “Pocketful of Kryptonite,” which helped the New Yorkers earn both a Grammy and AMA nomination. In fact, the album has recently been re-released as a two-disc record with lots of bonus material. Dave O recently SKYPED with Eric Schenkman of Spin Doctors to talk about the new album, the classic songs “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong,” the formation, split and re-formation of the band, as well as little known facts such as Blues Traveler front man John Popper once being in Spin Doctors.

BSB Gets A Star & More

Well it seems like once per month, we’re writing about boy bands, which judging by your Twitter requests (@roundtrip90s) and phone calls (855-895-TRIP) is just fine with you! And, don’t tell the guys at the gym, but it’s just fine with me, too! This week, its Backstreet Boys, who officially earned their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (last Monday)! Nick Carter tweeted: “Huge day. Receiving a star on Hollywood Blvd. WOW! Thank you to all our fans.” Brian Littrell was a little less “wordy,” saying: “In Stone!!!! Thank GOD!” Hard to believe Backstreet Boys have been together TWENTY YEARS NOW and all over Read More …

Lauryn Hill, BSB & More

If you’re like me, you’ve often wondered what happened to Lauryn Hill, who certainly had a successful career, but maybe not as big as it could have been. For starters, consider this: Hill’s debut album back in 1998 (The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill) sold over 19 million copies worldwide, and earned the former Fugees singer FIVE DIFFERENT GRAMMY AWARDS!!! That’s right, over NINETEEN MILLION COPIES!!! and five Grammy’s. To this day, you’ll still hear the single “Doo Wop (That Thing)” often in 2013 on radio stations across the USA (and of course, on Round Trip – along with “Killing Me Softly” from Fugees!). Anyway, shortly Read More …

Shaggy, Sheryl & More

A very good question begins this week’s “Back In The Day Buzz.” It comes to us from Shane in Flagstaff, Arizona, who found us on Twitter (@roundtrip90s) and asked the following: “What happened to Shaggy? He was on fire & then disappeared! Thanks, luv ur show.” First of all, thank you for the kind words Shane and second, here’s the latest on Shaggy. He’s actually working on a collaboration album with Sly & Robbie that is “due out this spring.” I would guess that is supposed to mean in the month of May, but from my contact at a record label (not his), it sounds Read More …

La Bouche Interview

La Bouche consisted of Lane McCray and the late Melanie Thornton, who was taken from us prematurely after a plane crash in 2001. Dave O recently SKYPED with Lane McCray, who spoke at length about the life of Melanie Thornton and what she was like, as well as the meanings of such La Bouche songs as “Be My Lover” and “Sweet Dreams” and what he’s up to today! Listen to the interview here!

Wilson Phillips’ Health & More

Some scary news this week for one third of Wilson Phillips, as Carnie Wilson has announced that she is currently battling “Bells palsy” in her left cheek. If you’re not familiar with the disease, it essentially has the capability of paralyzing your face. Further, numbness is often prevalent, as well as loss of control of facial muscles. The disease is typically caused by a virus that inflames different parts of the face. However, the bright side is that most of the time, Bells palsy is temporary. That was definitely the case in the past, as this isn’t the first time that Carnie has battled Bell’s Read More …

Marky Mark…Back?

I feel like each “Back In The Day Buzz” article is “Groundhog Day” over the last couple of months… and I’m LOVING THAT!!! That’s because every single week, it seems like we either have a ’90’s group getting back together for a new album or tour, or one that teases us with the possibility of this occurring. The latest? MARKY MARK & THE FUNKY BUNCH could be getting back together!!!! Yes, let that sink in for a second……. MARKY MARK & THE FUNKY BUNCH!!! As in, Mark Wahlberg and his group have thrown the possibility around of a reunion. And, out of all of the Read More …
