I apologize for doing a mostly “speculative” edition of “Back In the Day Buzz,” but these stories were way too good to pass up on! Plus, nobody will ever confuse me for a responsible journalist, either! J
This first rumor has been around for almost a year, but I’m told it’s starting to gain some wings, and that’s the possibility of a Backstreet Boys/Spice Girls tour!!! Uh, YES PLEASE!!!
While we’re on the topic of Backstreet Boys, I have to tell you that I’ve spoken fairly extensively with all of the members except for Nick Carter. I’m sure he’s great too, but can confirm ALL of those dudes are EXTREMELY down to earth and appreciative of their fans and humbled by the success. It’s actually quite weird – people often ask, “Who were the nicest celebrities you’ve interviewed? Who were the jerks?” They’re quite shocked when I mention BSB as among the best and honestly, it’s a pretty standard trend that the bigger the star, the nicer they are. Random but true.
Next, while the song “Sugar” by Robin Schulz is currently out on Top 40 radio and samples the early 2000’s song “Suga Suga” by Baby Bash, we evidently WON’T be hearing an older track re-done. That is, Brandy/Monica “The Boy Is Mine,” as Monica says she’d much rather let the 90’s be the 90’s and not ruin a great thing. However, the door is SLIGHTLY left open by a later quote: “I’ll never say never.” So while we’re on the topic of rumors, should we just go ahead and start the rumor that it’ll be out soon? J I kid, I kid.
Finally, there have been VERY faint whispers that perhaps Gregg Alexander of New Radicals would “re-form the group” after walking away from the project right in the middle of the second single climbing the pop charts in 1999 (“Someday We’ll Know – the first being “You Get What You Give”). Alexander has mainly been writing and producing for other artists since those days and in recent years, had a song appear as an Oscar contender from the “Begin Again” soundtrack. However, I can confirm that rumor is FALSE, unfortunately. I (and many others) will continue to treasure that New Radicals album (“Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too”) and be convinced it’s one of the best of the 90’s – but also wonder “what if” on many levels. Oh well, if he’s happy, that’s all that matters.
“Just because you’re good at something – does it mean you were meant to do it?” –Former NFL Quarterback Todd Marinovich.
Until next time, take care, and keep livin’ the 90’s dream!
