Semisonic, Live & More

danwOur “Turkey Day” edition of “Back In The Day Buzz” begins with perhaps the most exciting news we’ve heard in awhile – that Ed Kowalczyk (formerly of Live) is touring again (with Toad The Wet Sprocket) and putting out new material, including the album “The Flood and The Mercy” and the single “Seven.”

To refresh, Kowalcyzk was the lead singer of Live from 1988-2009 when things got ugly and the other three members of Live decided to “take legal action” against Kowalczyk who in turn, said he would “never work with them again, either.” The band has since moved on and luckily, so has Kowalczyk, because he is one of my favorite musicians of all-time. I do find it sad that Live had to break up but am glad he’s still “kickin’ it” within the music world.

Another guy “still kickin’ it” in a BIG WAY is Dan Wilson from Semisonic (not to be confused with Dan Wilson, formerly catcher of the Seattle Mariners).

Wilson has a new single as a solo artist called “Disappearing” and has co-written songs for some of the biggest individuals in music – Josh Groban, Taylor Swift and the Dixie Chicks. He is one who I have spoken with several times about joining us on an episode of “Round Trip,” but we can’t ever seem to get our schedules to match up. Hopefully that happens in 2014 – I’ll make it one of my New Years Resolutions!

Yes, New Years, it’s almost here… as is Thanksgiving.

In conclusion of this entry, I’d like to take a minute and pause for all of the things I am thankful for, and hope you’ll do the same.

It’s easy the older we get to let time “get the best as of us” – as in, days turn to weeks, weeks turn to months, months turn to years and before you know it, you’ve blinked and lost a lot of time.

To me, Thanksgiving isn’t about the superficial (though football and food are amazing) but rather, it’s about slowing life down and thinking about how fortunate we are to have things that we do. I hope you’ll join me in trying to “slow things down” this week and remember how good we really do have it within our lives.

That’s it for now – until next time, take care, and keep livin’ the 90’s dream!!

Gobble Gobble,

-Dave O
