Diane Warren has had over 100 songs on the charts. She has written songs for nearly 100 movies. She’s been nominated for five Golden Globes (one victory), six Academy Awards and seven Grammys (with one win). She became the first songwriter in the history of Billboard to have seven hits, all by different artists, on the charts at the same time. She has been named ASCAP Song Writer of the Year six times and Billboard Song Writer of the Year four times. She is in the Song Writers Hall of Fame. She even has her own Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Yes, Diane Warren is kind of a big deal, and Dave O was thrilled to recently SKYPE with her to discuss the above as well as a million other topics, including having her own night on American Idol, where the songwriting bug came from, when she usually does her best work, how song placement works and her brand new song, “I Was Here,” by Beyonce, among others.
